Sophia Ackermann has a master’s degree from the University of Würzburg and has been working as a computational linguist at berns language consulting GmbH since 2022. Sophia advises berns language consulting customers in the areas of AI application for terminology and translation processes and grooms and migrates customer data for these processes.
Kerstin Berns has been working as an expert and strategist along the translation process chain for 25 years. In 2005 she founded the company berns language consulting GmbH. Ever since, Kerstin and her team help industry customers efficiently use terminology, ontologies, and AI-based translation and offer groomed language data for these processes.
Robert Bevington is a manager at dSPACE GmbH in Paderborn, Germany. In addition to his other responsibilities, he oversees the entire dSPACE Language Services team, as well as its processes and tooling. He has worked at dSPACE for almost 25 years and in the language industry for over 30 years. He is passionate about getting the best out of tools and integrating them into related processes. Robert was a member of the ETUG Steering Committee and served as its Chair for some ten years, during which time he also moderated the ETUG Conferences. Prior to this, he served in the British Army for 13 years as an Avionics Technician before deciding to settle in Germany, where he still lives and works.
Daniel Brockmann is Principal Product Manager at Team Trados. Daniel product-manages a wide range of applications in the Trados portfolio designed for translators, project managers and terminologists – from the translation productivity environment Trados Studio via the terminology management suite Trados Terminology (cloud) and MultiTerm (on-premise) to the software localization solution Passolo. He also helps the team to evolve the translation management solution Trados Enterprise as well as the collaboration solutions Trados GroupShare (on-premise) and Trados Team (cloud-based).
Frank Drefs is a translator and terminologist working in the Terminology and Translation Management unit of the Volkswagen AG Research and Development division. He specializes in translation productivity/terminology tools, processes, and workflows. Frank holds a degree in translation from the Leipzig University.
Amr Elbargisi is an Arabic Translator at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, with over 15 years of experience in translation for UN-system organizations and beyond. He has a strong interest in translation technology and the IT aspects of language services at large. At the IAEA, Amr works within multiple cross-functional teams on automation and integration solutions for language services and multilingual publishing, and has won internal awards for his role in developing the workflow for the multilingual publication of the IAEA’s Annual Report using a new, modernized design.
Klaus Fleischmann studied translation and interpreting in Vienna, holds an M.A. in Conference Interpreting from Monterey, California, and an MAS in Technical Communication from Danube University in Krems, Austria. He founded Kaleidoscope GmbH and went on to build the leading enterprise terminology management platform Quickterm. In 2007, he became managing director of Austria´s leading LSP, Eurocom Translation Services GmbH. He has served on the Boards of Directors of GALA, ELIA and TermNet.
Dagmar Gromann is Associate Professor at the Centre for Translation Studies of the University of Vienna, after working for IIIA-CSIC in Barcelona and the AI Faculty at TU Dresden. Her main research interests are information extraction, including terminologies and conceptual concepts, and socio-technical implications of modern language technologies, such as gender bias beyond the binary. She organizes major computational linguistics events, such as ACL 2025, and has jointly instigated the master’s program on Multilingual Technologies with the University of Applied Sciences Campus Wien as the first computational linguistic education program in Austria.
Luis Lopes is Principal Product Manager at Team Trados, where he drives the Trados cloud platform, including offerings such as Trados Enterprise used by global enterprises for localization at scale. With 20+ years at Trados, he has led products such as GroupShare and MultiTerm and speaks frequently on AI-enabled workflows and product strategy.
Grzegorz Okoniewski joined the European Commission in 2011 as translator. Gradually, his focus moved to IT. He is now Language Technology Coordinator and is part of the central team dealing with IT governance. His areas of expertise are quality assurance, markup languages, and neutralisation of non-translatable content. He was the primus motor for the development or customization of several quality assurance tools in DG Translation, ranging from error checking, through smart autosuggest to smart autotranslate. He has also prepared DGT’s Studio environment for xml-based legislation which will be the topic of his presentation. Before joining the Commission, Grzegorz worked in the educational sector, including 6 years lecturing in Danish at the University of Vienna. He has also authored a Danish-Polish dictionary of legal terms.
Christopher Shaw is the head of the English, Spanish and Italian translation unit at the European Investment Bank, the European Union’s Luxembourg-based development bank. He has 13 years of experience in translation in the public and private sectors, and has been closely involved with the implementation of various new translation technology solutions during his career.
